At this century-old home on the eastern edge of the Atlantic (see below) you can relax in a cozy environment filled with a collection of Newfoundland writing, music and art. Consider this your retreat from everyday stress. The guesthouse/B&B, which during off-season (October-May) is also available for rent, workshops and retreats, includes four double bedrooms, two baths, comfortable seating areas and a full kitchen.
Meals are offered on request. You have access to the porch, garden and hobby farm with goats and chickens that recreate a sense of the traditional lifestyle of the fishing families that occupied this special place in the past.
From the doorstep experience the views, sounds and smells of the ocean. Depending on the time of the year, watch whales, seabirds, icebergs passing by. A walk along this rugged coast is sure to blow away any cobwebs. Sea air is said to have an abundance of healthy negative ions, created by the crashing waves. Nothing is more effective than a sea view to cut stress levels.
Explore the traditional outport (fishing village) Pouch Cove (pronounced "pooch cove") set along a dramatic rocky coastline surrounded by woods and hills covered with blueberries, a place where the lifestyle tends to be slow-paced, quiet and friendly. Painters and writers come here to be inspired. You will be the first to see the sunrise in this most easterly community of North America.
Hike the northern end of the scenic East Coast Trail with the help of maps and information provided by your host, one of the founding members of this over 400 km long coastal trail, which attracts hikers from all over the world.
Visit St. John's, the capital city of Newfoundland and Labrador, with its splendid harbour, fine heritage houses, large university, and rich cultural life - a mere 30 minutes away. Tour with your host, a folklorist, to experience the many natural and cultural attractions of Newfoundland. Guide services are available in English and German. On request, touring information and self-guided itineraries can be provided.
Off-season (October-May) Points East guesthouse is available for rent and to conduct workshops and retreats. We are in the process of establishing a Healing Center that will focus on healthy living, natural foods, yoga and energy work. Guest speakers on related topics are welcome.
